Can Hypnotherapy help with OCD?

Firstly I want to start off with changing OCD to OCB instead, Obsessive-compulsive behaviour as this is not a disorder, or should not be labeled as such. I remember when my Trainer and Supervisor, Gordon Young from The Institute of Applied Psychology changed the words and gave his reasoning and it really resonated with me.

I remember 3 recent cases where I helped 2 adult ladies and a teenage girl overcome Trichotillomania (Hair pulling).  Trichotillomania is the repetitive urge to pull out hair from the body, despite trying to stop. Mainly pulling from the scalp but could also entail eyebrows and other areas of the body.

Now some may take more sessions however 4 is typically the number of sessions I would suggest whereafter we re-assess. For the 3 cases I referred to above they in fact overcame this behaviour in 1-3 sessions.  You see every person is different and although there are similarities in the challenges people face every person does it differently. Therefore Hypnotherapy for Obsessive compulsive behaviours are uniquely tailored to each individual.

I feel I want to add at this point that I do not therefore use scripts because that just means it is one size fits all. Even if you change a few lines you are still bound by that script and cannot even pivot with new information or realisations you may recognise about the client or the challenge they came in for.  Each to their own, there are many Hypnotherapists that use scripts and I am sure they get some outcomes but this is just my preference.

So when someone pulls their hair every single day, numerous times a day, and from experience this may include during sleep as well, they are mainly not aware that they are doing it. It has become unconscious, habitual.  I can thus safely say they are in a trance state so although I am a Hypnotherapist in this instance I need to de-hypnotise them so they become aware of what they are doing. Then we interrupt the process, deal with underlying anxiety and in no time they are free from this obsessive behaviour.

Because hypnosis deals directly with the subconscious mind we are able to get to the source and in turn there is rapid transformation!
