Hypnosis for a Healthy Relationship with food

Many of us may have, at some point, had an unhealthy relationship with food, which may have led to being over- or for some, underweight. Hypnosis can help you develop a healthy relationship with food.

Oh my garden, I was the queen of the “clean plate club” in my teens. Extra helping of mashed potatoes? No problem! Dessert after a giant burger? Bring it on! My metabolism was a bottomless pit… or so I thought. But as many of you know, that carefree eating style tends to take a sharp turn after a certain age, right?

Now, I’m not saying our parents were wrong for wanting us to finish our dinner (they were probably just tired of making another meal after we declared we were “starving” two hours earlier). But that ingrained “clean plate” mentality, especially when combined with good intentions but not-so-great nutritional knowledge, can definitely lead to a distorted relationship with food.  And then, what about portion sizes, well I know that my idea of what a dinner plate filled with food should look like was far from the recommended portions, which I found shocking, and only much later in life.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt guilty about leaving a single pea on your plate, even though you were absolutely stuffed! Or maybe you used food as a reward, a soother, or even a shield against boredom? We’ve all been there.

That’s where hypnosis comes in. Here’s the thing: hypnosis isn’t about brainwashing you to hate pizza or ice cream (although, let’s be honest, some days that might be tempting). It’s about rewiring your subconscious mind to develop a healthy and positive relationship with food.

Here’s how hypnosis helped me develop a healthier relationship with food, lose excess weight, and of course how it can help you:

  • Breaking the Cycle of Guilt and Shame: Remember that voice in your head screaming at you for taking a second slice of cake? Hypnosis can help silence that inner critic and replace it with self-compassion. You’ll learn to listen to your body’s natural hunger and fullness cues, not emotional triggers.

  • Reframing Your Perception of Food: Food is fuel, not the enemy. Hypnosis can help you ditch the “good” and “bad” food labels and see food for what it truly is: a source of nourishment for your amazing body.

  • Portion Distortion Demolition: Remember those overflowing dinner plates from childhood? Hypnosis can help you develop a healthy understanding of portion sizes. You’ll learn to feel satisfied, not stuffed, and ditch the “clean plate club” mentality once and for good.

  • Unlinking Food from Emotions: Food shouldn’t be your go-to for stress relief or boredom busters. Hypnosis can help you identify healthier coping mechanisms and emotional outlets, so you’re not reaching for the cookie jar when you’re feeling down or binge for a day when you feel overwhelmed or stuck because of some situation in your life.

The goal is to make healthy habits feel as automatic as brushing your teeth, it is not like you have to convince yourself or negotiate each day whether you will or will not brush your teeth right? You “just do it” like Nike would say! Hypnosis can help you break free from the yo-yo dieting cycle and create a sustainable, positive relationship with food. You won’t be constantly negotiating with yourself about what to eat (hello, internal struggle!). Instead, making healthy choices will become second nature, just like that daily shower you (hopefully) take!

In the next blog post, we’ll delve deeper into how hypnosis can help you integrate healthy movement (because who wants to call it “exercise”?) into your daily routine and make it a fun and rewarding part of your life. Stay tuned, and get ready to ditch the food drama and embrace a healthier, happier you!
